4GREAT scope except for one thing...
By Jim Brant
I would have given this scope more than five stars...except for one thing that really irritated me - the LENS CAP!

Here's why. I take pride in my equipment and don't bang it around, so I take pains to not scratch up or ding anything. Unlike most scope suppliers, Sky Watcher (and Orion) scopes have lens caps with clips that fit INSIDE the dew shield to hold them in place. Besides being inherently loose and prone to falling off, these lens caps also scar and gouge the inside of the dew shield. Your brand new otherwise impeccably finished scope is damaged the second you remove the lens cap. Call me overly picky, but if I wanted stuff in that condition, I'd have bought it used.

The optics and focuser on this scope are fantastic quality though and the gold speckle finish on the black tube is really stunning, even in moonlight. It's just a shame that you will get it damaged. Oddly enough, my other scope, a Nexstar 8SE from Celestron also has a lens cap with clips on the inside, but they don't gouge at all.

I actually returned the SW100 and bought a larger achromat from Explore Scientific. However if the scoring of the tube doesn't bother you, you will be VERY happy with the SW100. Orion's Sky View Pro equatorial mount would be a perfect match for it
