5Great as a spotter scope or for astronomy
By Edward R. Strelow
I was almost blown away by the quality of this scope. To give you an idea, I just found a bald eagle with it today. To the naked eye it was just a dot. With the lower power eyepiece it was easily recognizable, even through quite a bit of heat shimmer. Looking up the foothills behind me, with the higher power eye-piece I could easily make out the symbols on a sign on a building next to some radio towers, where you could only just make out the building with the naked eye. The scope is solid and well built and the finder scope is quite useful too.

The images are very sharp both for terrestrial and for astronomical use. It it does not match my 10 inch aperture scope for stargazing but it is still useful for casual viewing. Of course the 10 incher is over 100 lbs and is a real pain to take anywhere so this 90 mm unit is going to get used a lot more use. For astronomical use you may want to just plug the eyepieces into the back of the scope and avoid some blurring.

The tripod is very light and easy to set up, which makes it good for backpacking. It does however vibrate somewhat although it settles down in a few seconds. I have a heavier duty tripod, but it is much heavier and harder to set up and it cost about as much as this entire package.

Basically you are getting a fine scope with a functional but not brilliant tripod. Still highly recommened.

4Optics good, tripod drek
By Shmuel Goldstein
The scope, eyepieces, 45-degree erecting prism, and the bags all are a good value. If you use the enclosed tripod, you will be frustrated. DO NOT USE THIS TRIPOD FOR THE SCOPE. I did, and because the altitude had so much play, it needed to be tightened all the time. This resulted in the altitude screw being eventually stripped, making the tripod useless. So, use a heavier tripod, and take advantage of this very inexpensive package for the optics.

5Terrific scope
By Rick
This is perhaps one of best portable telescopes I have ever owned. Optics are excellent. It is made very solid (metal). Gears are smooth. Objects I have seen with it so far are Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars, and the moon. The images are great. It comes with a backpack and is small enough to take with you anywhere you go. I only recommend getting another tripod to view with. The one provided is not the kind you use for astronomical viewing and does not provide much stability. It is most likely provided so that the buyer would have something to use in case they did not own one. For this scope, I use a Cellestron heavy duty tripod and it works great. This is a quality scope for very little money.
