Product Feature
- Fits all Celestron 6 inch and 8 inch tubes.
Product Description
The thing to do about dew! Celestron's lens shade/dew sheild is a tube of approximately the same diameter as your telescope's tube. It's designed to fit on the front end of the telescope to reduce the amount of dew that builds up on the corrector plate, ruining your view, and possibly your scope. At the same time, it serves as a lens shade, preventing stray light from falling on the corrector plate. This also greatly improves the view. Celestron's lens shade/dew cap: it's what to do about dew! Sturdy tube fits front end of telescope. Reduces dew buildup on telescope corrector plate. Shades lens and prevents stray light on corrector plate. Protects scope and enhances views. Available in a choice of sizes for C6/8 or C11 Telescopes.

Holds back dew and glare very well on nexstar 8se
By Lord Marshal the 1st
Holds back dew very well on Celestron NexStar 8 SE Telescope. It also functions very well to keep stray light from coming in. During heavy dew, the shade will also get dew on it, so bring a rag to wipe it down.
The easiest way to get it on the telescope for a tight fit is to preform it by lining up the velcro strap so that the tub is straight and not making a cone shape. Then once done, put the tube on a flat surface, face the front of your scope downwards, and use the weight of the telescope with additional pressure to slide the the shade onto the end of the scope. Make sure you line up the notch too or else you'll have to do it over. Doing it this way ensures a tight fit and prevents the shade from sagging and if pushing too hard, moving the tripod legs.
I stopped mounting the shade onto the telescope when the telescope was setup because it puts stress onto the gears and the assembly.
I only gave it 4 stars because it should be priced at $15.

Does what it says, though doesn't fit well on CGEM models
By Joel
I purchased this lens shad after I experienced problems with rapid condensation while trying to photograph Jupiter in the early hours of the morning. I'm glad to say that with the assistance of this shade I was able to capture my picture without experiencing further condensation problems. With the shade in place the condensation rate is drastically lower. It also helps to prevent light from stray sources from coming in contact with the aperture of the telescope.
The shade has a notch in it so that it will fit better over the the dovetail mount of the lens. While Celestron recommends this shade for the CGEM series of telescopes the notch on the shade is not made to fit around the mount. Never the lest it fits sufficiently well, though I would want it to fit better.

DOES THE JOB, INEXPENSIVE
By Bruce E Bowman
I use this on my 8" Celestron and it does the job of significantly slowing dew buildup on the corrector plate. This shield appears to be ruggedly made and the velcro closure holds tightly. Interior padding on the scope end of the shield helps keep it snug while preventing damage to the OTA.
Like all dew shields it will make your scope front-heavy. Unless you're using heavy Nagler-type eyepieces you'll probably need to re-balance the mount a little to compensate. I also recommend storing this item flat in its original plastic sleeve. If you store it with the Velcro hooked [as shown in the picture] it will go out of round over time.
All in all, an effective and inexpensive solution to a common problem with SCTs.
