4Decent telescope for the price

Got this telescope from telescopes.com. Called and talked to a customer support person before purchasing. That was of limited use. I felt that the agent was trying to push items that were in stock, rather than provide the best alternatives. That feeling has been validated by local club members here in Houston. BUT, they don't make the 'scope, Celestron does! ;)

Overall quality is very good. Mount and drive are stable, and support the telescope with no problems throughout the operating range. CGEM drive is okay, but not great. GoTo software seems to be a bit buggy. Sometimes the hand control stops functioning. Reboot solves the problem, but then alignment is required again -- sort of a pain after spending $3,000+. There are reports of poor quality at the yahoo CGEM group, but mine seems to be functioning okay so far, even if generating a lot of noise.

Optically very good. Had a chance to compare with an Obsession 18" Dobsonian. Very close in resolution, if slightly fainter, which is to be expected. Very flat field of view. Will report back later on astrophotography capabilities.

Focusing mechanism borders on crude. Fairly typical for this design, but I wish that they could have done better. I will need to spend money on an aftermarket focuser.

Would I buy again? Probably yes, when on sale, but not at current dealer pricing.
