Great scope for inexperienced and/or impatient
By philipbergen
This scope is a riot!!
I love it, my kids love it!
You can see Jupiter's moons, the bands around jupiter, Saturn's rings, stars about 15-20 arc-seconds apart.
The detail you get when looking at the moon is mesmerizing!
Looking at far away galaxies is possible, but not as ensnaring.
And it shows you the sky. You align it so easily (be sure to read the instructions, it needs a niece big chunk of clear sky to the right.
After the first night out, spend a little time to calibrate the camera. It is easy to do and improves the precision tremendously.
Every time you take the tube off and put it back on, it shifts ever so slightly, and then you will have to recalibrate the camera.
Battery lasts for ever. Lots of scopes gets complaints about battery running flat in no time. Not this baby. It runs on 8 D-size guns. I have it out every night for hours and I'm still on my first set of batteries!
The reason I give it 4 stars are the demonstration value only eyepieces that comes with it. If they had bundled their lovely zoom eyepiece this would have been a home run, 5-stars, no holds barred review. So if you get this (or any other Celestron scope), do yourself a favor and order the zoom eyepiece:
Celestron 93230 8 to 24mm 1.25 Zoom Eyepiece
Happy stargazing!

Get A Quality Case For This Too
By Joe Pillera
I've been an amateur astronomer for years and years. I use to own an 8-inch but frankly, it was too gigantic to use more than just occasionally. This thing is well-built and simple to put together in the field. Something you should know: I purchased the Pelican 1730 case too. Why? The Pelican 1730 case was wonderful when it came to holding the scope, tripod and other necessary components. That case also has "two man lift" handles on it. Talk about putting a well built scope into a well built case. Just make sure you get the case with the foam, so you can organize the contents anyway you want. To get a sample image from me, just let me know - and I will try to get back to you with a photo of how I arranged my case. Your results could vary of course. But my way of plucking the foam worked great for me.
One note: some people opt to "go cheap" and just use the original box to haul the scope around in. In my personal opinion that's a big mistake. But to each his own. The original box is great to ship stuff in to your home. But cramming your extra eyepieces and other accessories into a box like this is kind of silly if you ask me. Besides - that cardboard box isn't the most durable thing ever made. Did Celestron make a wonderful product? Absolutely! But if you're going to invest in a nice scope like this, seriously consider getting a good case for it too.

My first serious scope
By Larry D. Moland
I have had smaller telescopes in the past and had a hard time finding stars an planets I would like to see. The only thing I could every see was the moon. With this scope I have discovered the heavens like never before. Celestron has a new larger scope out now just might have to move up.
