Not the scope I hoped for

I was please with all the cosmetic aspects of the scope. Generally, it is well made. Probably good for a kid. But there are issues. I am a life long astronomer and have owned over 20 telescopes and understand their plusses and minuses. This scope has a small f/ratio. As such, collimation is very important. So, let's begin. First, the eyepiece focus tube was located perhaps a quarter of an inch too close to the primary mirror and the required repositioning could not be compensated for by moving the secondary. This, in itself, would not really affect overall collimation , but only mean that part of the primary reflection would not be utilized.
The actual collimation with a Cheshire eyepiece was doable, but even then I think the images should have been better. I was hard to see any belts on Jupiter, something that should be accomplish able at 40 power with this scope. Stars appeared ok, but this is a low power scope, so that is to be expected. The Orion nebula looked ok..
Bottom line, I would recommend spending a little more money and getting a higher f/ratio dobsonian.Say an f/7. I do not think that you can get , or should expect to get, a good cheap, f/3 reflector . This scope might work OK(sort of) for star clusters, nebula,and the moon. But not for overall sharp imaging. However a kid may not be too crtical. It's a nice size for them and they will have a lot of fun playing with it in the daytime, looking at things in the back yard.

The moon

Worked well for viewing the moon and Jupiter also sirua star we need to go somewhere darker so we can see further out.

Beautiful night sky

The most beautiful night sky I have ever seen was in Big Bend National Park! No lights or obstructions also at McDonald observitory in the Davis Mountains in Texas where you can see through the telescope there!
