5My first telescope
By Dat Hong
I am a novice "astronomer" and this is my first telescope. I laughed at reviews that said get binoculars first. Well...I should have listened. Even though the moon is in the sky and I can see it with my eye, I had a super hard time trying to find it in the telescope and focusing it. It definitely took some practice. But once I got it working, the view is fantastic. I could see the craters on the moon. I thought I could see something cool by just pointing it randomly at the sky, but sadly it doesn't work like that. It really needs precision.

All in all, this is a fantastic telescope. If you are starting out, definitively go with a nice pair of powerful binoculars and then get a telescope.

Remember to turn the star finder off when not in use because the battery dies FAST. Also, get the Ac adapter with it.

5Great Scope for the Money!
By Luke
This was my third telescope and I was quite impressed with it. Easy to set up, easy to align, easy to use. Keep in mind though that aperture is everything and this telescope only has a 4.5" (114mm) mirror and you won't get fantastic images of far away galaxy and nebula, although you can see a lot through this scope. If the price of this scope is at your price limit, go for it. If you can afford to spend twice as much, go for something with a bigger aperture.

4Great telescope
By Jonathan
There is one reason -and one alone - that I don't give this beginner telescope a full five stars - the computer is a pain. Setting up the automatic star finder is more trouble than it is worth and this model is too primitive to hook up to a more powerful computer with a more comprehensive star catalog. But ignore that (or get lucky and have the scope align itself properly) and you've something of respectable power. The mirror is of decent quality, the aperture is the smallest you should go for a reflector but is ample for basic astronomy, the tripod isn't great but is fine for the power of the scope (just don't drink and drive it). Scopes get rapidly more expensive, because the mechanical and optical components are exponentially more difficult to produce, so when starting out, if you're unsure what you want the telescope for, this is the sort of telescope you want.
